  • Double whammy

    0
Copied from the Saipan Tribune - September 26, 2012 ( http://www.saipantribune.com/newsstory.aspx?newsID=122179&cat=15 )   With all due respect, not only is Public Law 17-82 defective (as has been pointed out at some length in the Sept. 25 issue of the other paper) but the budget bill is also defective. It is based on the assumption that most retirees will withdraw their money from the Retirement Fund, and that therefore the government will not have to make any further payments Read more [...]

  • Active Employees Make Run on NMIRF

    0
As allowed by PL 17-82, nearly 400 active employee members of the Defined Benefits Plan made a run on the NMIRF yesterday filing out forms to fully withdraw their contributions, plus interest, with no fees. By doing this each of these members are severing ties with the DBP and ending the governments Constitutionally protected mandate to provide them and their beneficiaries retirement payments for life in exchange for a lump sum payout today. The true impact of such a run on the NMIRF is unknown. Read more [...]
