Tydingco-Gatewood Schedules Emergency Hearing – 4/2 at 9:30am
Judge Tydingco-Gatewood has called for an emergency hearing in order to clarify issues surrounding attempts to refund active employee DB members contributions. The hearing is set for 4/2/13 at 9:30 am in CNMI District Court. The judge has asked the Fund and Government to explain how exactly the refund of money as directed by PL18-2 will “stabilize” the fund.

Fund Counsel Cautions Members To Weigh All Options
KSPN2 interviewed exiting NMIRF Legal Counsel, Carolyn Kern about the voluntary termination of membership option now available to NMIRF members. In the interview, Kern cautions all current government workers to weigh all their options before attempting to terminate their contract with the NMIRF. CNMI AG Attempts to Justify Future Cuts to Pensions
The Attorney General, Edward Buckingham, has asserted that the Governor has the ability to unilaterally cut pensions. His legal analysis was explained in an interview he did on KSPN2 on 6/18/12. In the interview he explains his interpretation of Legislative Initiative 16-11 (ratified in 2010) and how he feels it gives this power to the Governor. Creditors Committee United On Some Fronts, Divided On Others
Here is KSPN2 coverage of the Creditor Committee: In one of the first meetings of the newly formed Creditors Committee the 7 member body unanimously voted to dismiss the Bankruptcy Case filed by the NMIRF.
